Memory; What it is, and How it is
~Iskander Kapkayev
"Memory is the term given to the structures and processes involved in the storage and subsequent retrieval of information" (McLeod 1).
We deal with three significant stages of memory (McLeod 2):
How do we understand memory today, beyond the technicality of things?
We deal with three significant stages of memory (McLeod 2):
- Encoding: Visual, Acoustic, Semantic
- Storage: Short Term, Long Term
- Retrieval: STM is retrieved sequentially, LTM is retrieved by association
How do we understand memory today, beyond the technicality of things?
So which part of the brain does the "memory" come from?
Turns out, most of our brain involves some kind of memory!

Our brains are sophisticated; against popular belief, they are actually significantly superior to computers.
Our memories are superior to computer RAM.
In other words, the above machines have powerful systems, however the human brain is not limited to the same extent; our memories and our brains are much more complex than most people actually realize (Spencer).
But how come it seems like most students lack efficient memories?
This has to do with how badly we are effecting it in the present!

The technology of our superior and advanced world has only had a negative impact on us.
As students get older, as technology keeps progressing, their will continue to be more distractions, and students will continue to suffer.
As suggested, we only have to reconsider the focus we give toward certain things.
"There is so much information going through our minds at one time that we can not even understand or remember what is going on in our own little worlds" (Spencer).
Hence, memory is a powerful tool that our brain uses to control the information we gather.
Let us all do a favor to our brains, and relax every now and then.

A fresh mind = A powerful memory = Intelligent individuals
